Water temp gauge goes sky high from cold, stop warning light then on constantly

water temp gauge goes to high from dead cold,rad fan comes on constantly and warning stop light flashing constantly.heaters lovely and warm.could this be a faulty waTER TEMP SENSOR.

Check water levels and there are no air locks etc. I had this on a 307 where the temp gauge went mental, the warning light came on then the car would go back to normal. It was the temp sender unit.

most likely to be temp sender but do all the checks aswell just to be sure and run the car on the spot to and make sure all ok before making any journeys
