1999 Peugeot 406 loss of power.

Car: Peugeot 406
Year: 1999
Variant: 2.0 hdi
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Car was driving fine in a convoy of cars,as we approached dual carridgeway i accelerated from about 55 up to 75/80 when all of a sudden there was a loss of power and i had to drop back to 65,every time i tried to pick up speed,no matter how far i pushed the pedal there was nothing,in fact when i done anything other than'featherd' the pedal i lost speed. However at 65 it was fine!
At the end of the carridgeway, back in town limits the car was ok till i got to about 1800rpm when once again all power is lost and if i push it feels like im flooding it wiv no increase in pace.
In short if i pootle around at minimum revs u wouldnt know there was a problem but try an pick up speed...nothing!!!
Im no mechanic but would a recon turbo sort this problem or is it something else?
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
What a nightmare!!!!!!
Thanks.

Clutch slipping ?

nope, clutch is fine, bites just right, everything is as b4(ie no probs) except this loss of power, could something be blocked?

Forgot to say the when im trying to accelerate and it gets to above 1800/1900rpm and it has no pull and feels like im flooding it the revs hold they dont increase as they would wiv a clutch prob, like i said the clutch still bites perfect.

Just started the car to see if it would rev when not in gear and it seems fine as though nothing happened, went for a drive and no probs!! what could of caused this to happen?
Worn turbo?
Filters need changing?
Some shit in the fuel lines?
Or something else?
I go on holiday soon and i need this sorted as i dont wanna be worrying bout it.
Please help!!

Have a trawl through the archives under pug and cit, there have been a few similar posts to this one. Its sounds like an MAF type fault.

Agree - does sound like a possible MAF fault. Try disconnecting MAF and taking car for a brief drive (don't leave it disconnected indefinitely). If power improved then suspect the MAF. Recommend you get new one from main dealer or swap with identical part from another vehicle to test. Please let us know how you get on.

Hi I had the same problem turned out to be a dead fly across the MAF heater element try cleaning it before replacement.
