Radio silence

2012 Peugeot 308 SW 1.6 Auto
Car: Peugeot 308
Year: 2012
Variant: SW 1.6 Auto
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
After working without any problems for the 2 and half years Ive owed the car the radio suddenly stopped working showing the message 'SILENCE' and 'PAUSE' o the CD player. Two days later it suddenly started again but next day wouldn't work and hasn't worked since. Can't find anything in the manual for that message. Fuses are fine.I'm not technically minded

Hi, I've fixed this problem by replacing the resistor inside the radio, see photo by clicking on the link below...

The power rating of the resistor is far too low hence it's very likely to fail as a result of overheating vs age, that's what happened in my case. My car is Peugeot 308, 2010. This resistor is used as a pull-up for the mute input and if it fails then the radio goes into MUTE (Silence) mode and stays there forever. It may start to work again for a short period of time if resistor recovers but will fail eventually showing 'SELENCE' message on the screen. I do not think there will be any other less technical explanation/solution to this problem, at least I could not find it anywhere when I looked.
Hope this will help. Good luck.

Hi Peter

I've recently started to have the exact same problem on my Peugeot 308, 2010. I'm going to ask a friend of mine to solder a new resistor for me but whilst looking online noticed that there are many different types in terms of wattage.

Do you know which would be the correct one to get? They appear to range from 0.25 watt - 2 watt.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Tony
