Engine cut out whilst driving

Basically whilst on dual carriageway, 'stop' flashed up on the dash and the car just cut out, it would not restart. Diagnostics showed crankshaft sensor fault, cant find out where this thing is situated and whether this will cure the problem.

Different places on different engines.
Depends on fuel type and engine size.
