2008 Peugeot 308 rear end knocking noise

I have a rear end knocking noise which I do not seem to be able to locate, it seems to be when I go over bumps etc. I thought it was the tools located in the spare wheel compartment though through process of elimination I can now say its not that. I have checked all the rear end suspension, shockers and springs and had the wheels up to check for any bearing problems, wobbling etc and these seem fine, its almost like something is knocking on the bodywork when I go over a bump and I cannot simulate this when the car is stood, this problem is getting annoying now, please could anyone advise if they have come across the same or could give any advice on what to look at next.

Whilst the car is on the ground, grab hold of the wheel at 12 'o'clock, then push and pull. If there is any play then you need to replace the upper control arms. If not that, then jack up the car and check the rear springs are not broken and also seated correctly. Also check for any play in the shock absorbers...

Is it only on one side of the car where you get the noise from. If so, is it the same side as the exhaust?. Make sure that it is all secure. Also check the heat shields above the exhaust to make sure they are not knocking against the body when you go over the bumps...

No Witty its hard to hear where its from apart from its somewhere on the rear, its definitely not the exhaust as checked that, all the heat shields are in place and secure, someone mentioned the bushes but they look ok unless they can look ok and still make the knocking ? I have run out of things to look for, I thought it may be the spare wheel so took it out with all the tools etc and still I had knocking! I'm totally lost!
