2007 Peugeot 308 headlights

My current headlights are quite poor, they don't light up the road very far. I have heard about hid's which i am quite interested in, iv seen some cars with them on with reflector lights like mine and they seem to be really good for distance. I am just unsure as to if i was to get them, would there be any reason for the police to pull me over?
