Notchy steering

2002 Peugeot 307 1.6
Car: Peugeot 307
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.6
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When the vehicle is stationary and the steering is turned side to side slighty i can hear a creaking noise. It also happens on full lock both sides when the steering wheel is moved slightly. I have been told this is notchy steering and is probably the steering rack.
I know the car needs a new power steering pump (because it's whining loudly) and was wondering if the notchy steering could be down to the faulty pump or would i need to replace the steering rack aswell.
The car also keeps losing power steering fluid slowly and i have no idea where it is going because there is no leaks anywhere.

If , as you say , the pas pump is knackered , I would replace that first and see how it is after that .

If you are losing power steering fluid and can see no external leaks then the fluid is probably leaking into rack gaitors.

forgot to mention that if fluid level very low this will make steering feel notchy as well and the pump will be noisier
