MAKING WHIRRING SOUNDS WHEN DRIVING ** PLEASE HELP!!**

whenever the car is in gear and driving it is making a weird whirring almost grinding sound and i dont have the faintest idea what it could be although i have been told it could be to do with the clutch or the gearbox...please help if you can!! would appreciate any help what so ever!! Thanks!!!

Hard to diagnose without hearing noise , could be wheel bearing or as suggested clutch / trans . A short road test should be enough for a garage to locate fault .

My wife has very similar problem and suspect gearbox also on a 'Y' plate. The whinning noise only aparant when gears engaged. Do you have any idea approx how much replacement gearbox would be? was thinking around £500 mark??
Only had the car for 6 months and already had to replace fuel tank as warped and now gearbox....

ive been quoted from anything between 200 to 1100 for a new gearbox recon or used its very frustrating!
