2003 Peugeot 307 temp guage irratic

Car: Peugeot 307
Year: 2003
Variant: 2.0 HDI
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
when the car is cold the temp guage and central warning warns of overheat and to stop. It settles down after it reaches operating temp however it doesn't stop completely. I can't find the temp sender unit and was told there are four. I have no other problem and the car seems to function fine except this this problem. It is not getting hot and the coolant level is correct. Is there anyone who could provide a circuit diagram or knows if this is a common problem.

Temp sensor seems to be a common fault . If you go here , half way down the posts shows you where sensor located .
