Temperature warning indicator

Has anyone else had a problem with their overtemp alarm on this car. You can be driving along when all of a sudden, the big STOP sign illuminates in the middle of the dash, the needle on the temp gauge goes off the scale and the car starts beeping at you. Within 5 nano-seconds, everything has returned to normal and it's like it never happened! This then happens sporadically. Also the horn chooses when it wants to work!
Is this car just a mass of electrical problems?
