2002 Peugeot 307 hairline crack in enginge

i have recently taken my car to a garage who said that i have a hairline crack in my engine and that it would cost one thousand pound to fix this with a new engine . if i had a hairline crack in my engine would it leak just water or would it leak oil aswell ??

Depends where the hairline crack is in relation to oil /coolant galleries
