2003 Peugeot 307 lack of power

Have just got my 4th 307 and its a petrol 1.6 16v, this is the 1st petrol i have had and i find it lacking in power compared to the diesels,the car had a snapped timing belt and the garage told me he had replaced the valves and water pump, is there any reason for what i think is a lack of power.

Check compressions , check timing set up correctly .
