2001 Peugeot 307 engine cuts out when car slows down!

Car: Peugeot 307
Year: 2001
Variant: 2.0 GLX 16V
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,hope someone can help. I bought my first Peugeot 7 days ago from a trader and all was fine until three days when the left indicator stopped working which thankfully rectified itself the next day. Unfortunately for me something much worse was to follow, on day 6 I filled up with petrol at my local supermarket then whilst driving the battery light and stop light came on and the engine cut out completely! Bizarely the car started up again straight away when I restarted it so I thought maybe I hadnt put much power on the accelerator and stalled it but unfortunately it continued to cut out everytime I slowed down at a corner or roundabout. With the car to unsafe to drive I got a breakdown recovery to check it out,and they found that when the car is running the engine vibrates dramtically which they said isnt right and mentioned something about it might be the coil, but couldnt diagnose the exact faults as they didnt have the electronic equipment. They advised me to return the car from where I bought it to get my money back,as they seemed to think repairs would be costly and the faults were likely to have been present when sold to me. But since I have tried several times to contact the seller, it has become obvious he doesnt want to know, and I'm scared I will be stuck with this car, I carnt drive. My question is, has anyone experienced these problems and how much is it likley to cost me in repair bills? I dont have much money left after buying the car for £2500 a week ago, so i'd rather not pay for diagnostics etc at Peugeot if the repair bill is likly to be £300+.
Any advice on this will be much appriciated!

hi,check connections on the ecu, see if your local garage can carry out a diognostic check on the engine managment system, is there oil on the dip stick.all this should should be inexpensive poss 1 hours labour at local garage rates poss £40-£50

Could be something common like coil pack but best to get a diagnostic scan carried out to see what shows. You don't have to go to main dealer , any decent garage / tuning centre should be equipped to check car . If you bought car from a dealer , get it back to him ASAP , the longer you wait the less chance you have of getting something sorted out .Did you not get car checked out / examined before buying .

Thanks for your replies, I cannot thank you both enough! After reading your replies, It prompted me to get diagnostics done on the car today. The fault was indeed both the oil and the coil gone.
Unfortunately for me the machanic uncovered some rather dangerous homemade wiring repairs to the horn/indicator unit using household wires and a buzzer. Was informed that not only could I get electricuted if I stood on the homemade wires, but that their was a high risk of the car catching fire. This is in addition to severely cracked brake pads! The result, car found unfit to drive.
Although I am upset that I have been conned out of over £2000. I am truly greatful to you both for prompting me to get it checked. You both without knowing it,probably saved my life!

Thanks for update , sorry to here of your probs. Very , very annoying to hear a trader selling a car in such a dangerous condition !!! I read you are having probs trying to contact the trader who sold you the car in this state . I would pursue him for a refund now you have had car checked and found it to be in an unroadworthy condition when he sold it to you.If not getting satifaction you could contact Trading Standards for help and advice .Best of luck .
