Water not circulating

engine overheating causing fan to come on early, stop warning light comes on, water in expansion tank is to the top and does not recede.

If there is no circulation of water it could be that your water pump impeller has come off ,as they are plastic,or thermostat is not fully opening

If thermostat o.k , carry out a block test to check if head / gasket pressurising cooling system Or could try bleeding cooling system first for airlocks .

Thanks for that, water pump (new 2 years ago) appears to be ok as is thermostat. It looks as though system may be silted up, a clean through has been done and things seem better.
