Seat wont lock back in

Hi can anyone help please. We took the drivers side middle row seat out of our peugeot 307sw. Now when we try to put it back in it wont lock down at the back, the pins with springs on them which fit into the holes in the floor wont lock in and sort of bounce out when you push the seat back into place. We have never taken the seats out before. I have sprayed the pins and springs with wd40 as they were quite stiff but no joy. Are you meant to pull one of the levers on the seat when you fold it back or should it just drop in place?

it sounds like the release mechanism has stuck or the cable has come out. does the seat still fold in half ok
