Not starting

My car starts alright when it's cold but after I drive it for a bit until the temp goes halfway then I turn it off and come back to it. It won't turn back on and I have to wait for ages for it to start again. All I can hear it the engine making a ticking sound when I turn the key. Any suggestions?

Check battery earths and earth from engine to bodywork .Also connections / wiring at starter .
