Engine cuts out

2004 Peugeot 307 cc convertible
Car: Peugeot 307

the car always starts first time. It runs fine for around 20 seconds then ticks over rough and the engine shakes quite badly for around 3 mins. If you try and drive it, the engine cuts out but when the temp gets to around 70, it goes sweet as a nut and no further problems. I've replaced the temp sensor and checked all the usual: plugs, coil pack breathers etc. but everything seems fine. I've even tried a lower viscosity oil in case it's something to do with the hydraulic tappets, but no joy. Any ideas?

Are there any codes? Maybe worth checking this first.check for air leaks.from your description it maybe a misfire issue.

I might be wrong but I think that engine has TWO coolant temperature sensors,
one for the gauge and one for the fuel injection.
But either way what I'd be looking at here is a graph of the output of the coolant sensor.
on better quality diagnostics it can be set up to record the sensor output wave from dead cold to full running temperature.
A steady rise on the graph with no sudden drops is what I want to see.
Sensors can fail in such a way that they can give false outputs at any point.
Or the ECU can get the wrong reading.
This is why a graph output is your next logical test.
