Peugeot 307 front brakes lock up while driving

while driving my 307 the front brakes locks up and the car comes to a halt and the brake pedal becomes hard. After switching off the engine for about 10 mins the brake pedal comes back like normal and the car can drive but only for afew miles and the brakes would lock again.

If you loosen off the master cylinder when the fault happens this will give clearance and the brakes will unlock this will tell u if

i have come across this before on different vehicles and changing the master cylinder has always cured the problem
