2005 Peugeot 307 car not starting

My Puegeot 307 would not start today. The battery is only about a year old. It had shown signs of struggling whiletarting for the last 2 days. I could only start it using a service battery. Can you let me know the reason?

Check battery connection leads are tight and free of dirt and oil.

Check things like boot and glovebox lights are going out when they should

Check alternator leads are tight

My Puegeot 307 just won't start when i turn the key the motor just swings thats all it does and on the dashboard there is a stop light what could possibbly be the probelm?
