2003 Peugeot 307 struggles to start on cold mornings and evenings

help please......my car is struggling to start on cold mornings and evenings???? the battery is ok the glow plugs are ok but iv noticed when the car is running and the lights are on the lights seem to dim then brighten up could this be anything to do with the alternator?????

It could well be an alternator fault, use a volt meter to measure the voltage at the battery, with the engine running as a rule of thumb you should get 14volts with or without headlights on.
Also check with your motor factors as there is a modified starter motor available for the hdi, yours maybe slow in turning over, check all battery and engine earths

could be something as simple as a faulty battery, if the starter is pulling all the battery current then sometimes not enough left to power the hdi try starting it with a set of jump leads when cold to see if its any different
