2001 Peugeot 307 wont go in to gear

while driving the car the clutch was juddering at junctions, then when stopped at destination the gear stuck in reverse, managed to put it in neutral. now it wont start when in gear, but it will when not in gear???

Get the clutch system checked and replaced sounds like its worn out.
