My car starts then cuts out. When I manage to get it to go the engine is very noisy compared to normal. It also makes an on off whiring noise and I can't get much power out of it.
Once it has been going for a while and it idles the revs go up and down and then eventually it cuts out after about 20 seconds. Sometimes less.
Is this an easy fix or going to be something expensive?

This could be as simple as a split fuel pipe or blocked fuel filter or possibly a faulty fuel pump.The sound you can hear might be the pump sucking.

It's a 1.4.
Do you think it could be expensive. MOT due in the next month so not sure if I should bother fixing it if it's going to cost a lot.
