2000 Peugeot 306 the rev counter go's up on its own

can someone please help, ive spent a fortune on this car. the problem is after a few miles the revs on my car start to go up and when i pull over and start to go off it starts to shudder if i turn the car off it wont start again. after a while it go's ok if i start speedin but if im stuck in traffic it starts again. ive taken it in2 the garage and they dont know what the problem is. ive changed everything i know it can be such as the oxygen and temp sensors, also it has had a new ecu can any1 help

get hold of the treatment called 20k boost and do as it says on the info and you should have your car running sweatly again hope this helps

it's possible you have a dodgy temp guage connecting to you ECU. If it's faulty it might start registering your engine at alot colder than it should (-13) in my case a few years ago. This results in the ECU telling the car to dump more fuel into your engine, hence the high revs!! it sounds like a problem i had as when the ECU was connected to a laptop the temp went from anywhere between 60 to -25 randomly! hope this helps.

Hi there, i had the same problem with my 306 meridian.The problem your having is being caused by the air bypass solenoid which is responsible for the amount of air required for the mixture.These can be purchased off ebay for about £30.The solenoid is situated at the rear of the throttle body, just above the throttle position sensor.Remove it and try cleaning it first, hopefully this will help.
