1997 Peugeot 306 rpm clock works untill the engine is warm

rev counter works first thing in the morning and when the engine is warm it dies, was advised to replace the alternator and this has not cured the problem. Ant ideas as this has been something that has wound me up for 6 months now trying to find out!!!!1!

check the wiring plug to crank sensor for damaged pins and make sure the plug is tight
