You don't say what size / type engine in car ? Does matter too much as it seems your prob. could caused by either engine misfire or clutch judder .Other possible cause could be engine / gearbox mountings . Gear stick could be wear on linkage . Really better getting car in to garage and checked over before it gets worse .Hope this helps .

could be either of the mounts.does the judder just come through gearstick.can you feel anything through the steering or brakes or anywhere else,is there any excess free play in the gear linkage.it could also be a problem with the gear selector mechanism in gearbox,

I have exactly the same problem, I have an S reg 1.9L Diesel 306 Peugeot. I have had it in the garage and at the tire place, all seems ok, bearing, mountings, tracking and balancing etc. I was thinking maybe, drive shafts, clutch problem or gears. Any suggestions much appreciated.
