2001 Peugeot 306 engine tapping when idleing

Car: Peugeot 306
Year: 2001
Variant: 2.0 HDI 90
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Just noticed that when my car is in idle there is a tapping noise from the engine but it goes as soon as i accelerate. Not sure what it could be cause most other tapping problems seem to get worse when accelerating.

Could be hydraulic tappet . When on idle oil pressure will be low , then when revs . increased , so will oil pressure which operates tappets . Sometimes an oil and filter change , especially if not been done for a while , does the job . You can also get an engine additive which can help clean hydraulic tappets .
