Rocker cover assembly

2001 Peugeot 306 1.6 meridian petrol

Hi, ive just recently brought this car and instantly noticed it was loosing oil, this was down to the rocker cover gasket basically being knackered, so I brought a new gasket, this is a very strange looking gasket and is a big thick rubber thing rather than your average gasket. This looked simple enough to change myself so I proceeded to undo the two bolts holding down the cover and lifted it off, after I removed the old gasket, I noticed inside the cover itself that there was another plate, this appears to be some kind of splash back plate where if you were to remove the oil cap whilst the engine is running you basically wouldnt get spat at with oil, this plate basically dropped out as I was removing the old gasket along with what appears to be 2 spacers, sorry if this is a little long winded.

What I would like to know is where these spacers go, is it inbetween the rocker cover and the splash plate, or do they go between the splash plate and the cam shaft itself ?

I have 2 theroy's on these spaces, one would be to act as stopping you from doing the rocker cover bolts up too tight and therefore crushing the gasket and the other therory would be to stop the plate from touching the cam shaft ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Put the plate on first and then the spacers

Thanks, I take it you are working from the head upwards in your reply ?

So on top of the cam I would first put the plate down on the studs, then the spacers on top of the plate, and then sit the rocker cover on top of all of that ?
