1996 Peugeot 306 stereo dosnt work anymore

i put a new cd player in the car in replace of another one, every thing was fine it was all fully working but when i tryed it a bit loud it just cut out, i looked at the fuses and they seam to be fine i then tryed the old cd player back in it and still nothing?? does any one know what it could be??
