1999 Peugeot 306 fan comes on when turn on car

just bought this car and was wondering why the fan comes on as soon as i turn on the car its not over heating drives fine and the a/c is not on the fan runs constantly then goes off when i turn off the car any suggestions ?

Possibly a faulty rad fan sensor or relay / wiring or it has been wired up that way for whatever reason .This shows you the set up , should help you .

is it ok to leave it like this or will it cause problems

If rad fan is running all the time the engine will struggle to reach operating temp and could affect mpg.Apart from the power it's using it will eventually wear out due to over use .
