2001 Nissan Micra car is dead

Hi all,
Last night i was picking my partner up from work. turned the engine off then about five mins later it made a sound like something was shutting down? turned it back on again n turned it off to see if it would make the same sound, but when trying to turn my car on after that nothing. At first the display light was on then that went off... Tried to bump start it, it made a feeble effort but nothing, then tried charging the baterry from another car with jumpleads, if my car hasnt started before this has always worked, after about half an hour of charge tried to turn it on but nothiong the car didnt even make a effort. the lights came on the dashboard but that was it, when i turned on my lights they were very dim, my gdad took the battery home to charge and it said it had about half full charge so dont think its battery, does anyoe no what else this could be? your help is v apreciated

Sounds like battery , especially as your dad said it was half charged when he checked it .Any fast fit centre or acceessory shop will test foc , while you wait . Might also test alternator output at same time .

ah thankyou i'll have to phone up a garage tomorrow and see if they can come and get it. so because it was half charged do u think its not the alternator then?

Could simply be a flat battery , possibly caused due to dud cell/s and needing replaced . If any dud cells , the battery wont retain a charge .Suggested getting alternator tested just in case it was not charging correctly which would run down battery also.Simple two min check .Probably ok. but best to get checked , again usually foc in any decent garage .Hope this helps .

take battery off car, charge for 24hrs, ideally, put on battery drop tester which simulates starter draw current, if it fails this test battery is knackered get new one
