I want to buy this car from a dealer but it has a loud ticking noise that comes and goes when the car is travelling. (very much like the sound of tappets on 1950's cars) but louder.
What is the cause of this and what is the cure. I don't want to be fobbed off by the dealer

Could be hydraulic tappets or timing chain . Expensive jobs if needing done .
