2005 Nissan Micra dead as a dodo

Driving along, suddenly lights started flashing on dashboard, pulled over. Car conked out, nothing working not even hazard warning lights. Immoboliser key flashing red on dashboard, nothing else works. Don't know where to start, do i get autoelectrician to check it first, or do i have to have it taken to a garage. Nissan garages very expensive. Looking for advice.

first check the battery and its connections if all ok check engine earth and body earth straps they used to break commonly on the primera
