2003 Nissan Micra nissan micra - cylinder misfiring

I was driving at 70mph when I suddenly felt the car lose power. It didn't stop, but didn't feel 'right.' When I got it home, I also noticed that when it was 'idling' in neutral, the car was juddering.
Called out the AA, who diagnosed that Cylinder 3 was faulty - but couldn't fix it.
I took the car to my local garage, who changed the spark plugs and also the coil of Cylinder 3. (£207) However, it didn't fix the fault. They then took a look at the engine and ran some more diagnostic tests - (Another £100) - to no avail.
They are now admitting the fault is a 'mystery' and are suggesting a full strip down of engine next - (£700-900) - with no guarantee of finding the fault.
Does anyone have any suggestions?I can't afford the £300 so far (bang goes taking the kids away for the summer) - let along another £1,000 or so - potentially for nothing. And, of course, I still can't run my car.
By the way, it's not the timing chain/belt - THAT was replaced at Christmas....(£800!).

garage should carry out a compression test or cylinder leakage test. only if that throws up a fault is there any point in stripping down the engine. if its the old noddy shape true micra they have known faults on the throttle bodies. this can sometimes be fixed with a simple strip down and solder of three terminals on the circuit board. easy fix search it on google
