Reverse light going On/Off

When gear stick is held in reverse, the Reverse light will go on, once gear stick is left go and the car is in the reverse motion the light goes off. What do you think the problem might be?

Reverse switch is a spring loaded beasty,
general wear in either the g/box or switch could cause this.
'course the switch is the cheaper option.
either way it has to come out.
