1996 Nissan Almera power loss/misfiring after leaving car idle 24hours +.

Car: Nissan Almera
Year: 1996
Variant: 1400
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
After leaving car idle for 24hrs +, the engine starts, & runs fine for first 3 miles - but then loses power, appearing to fire on only two or three cylinders. After switching off engine for about 30 mins. it restarts and runs OK. Whirring sound seems to indicate fuel pump is working OK.

The only realistic pump test is to check the trace pattern on an oscilloscope.
Really doesn't take that long but your garage has to have a 'scope.
