Temperature gauge problems

2003 Mitsubishi L200 2.5
Car: Mitsubishi L200

Hi
I have a 2003 mitsubishi l200 warrior ive owned it for 3 months and ive had a few problems with it. Its always had the problem that when I turn the ignition on (before the engine is even running) the temperature gauge rises straight up to the half way point even when its stone cold it had stayed there with no fluctuations i wonderd if it was a faulty sensor at first but it went up once about a month ago to about 3 quaters when I was on the motorway at 70mph so now I dont take it over 60mph . This morning I had a temperature spike (I was on a flat road at 40mph)and it rose all the way to the top. When I noticed it, i was very close to home so carried on and it began to subside any suggestions?
Many thanks
Luke

It might indeed be the temp sensor but from your description I'm suspecting a fault in the module that fits on the rear of the instrument cluster.
This l200 shares almost everything with the Pajero so go on youtube and type in "pajero temperature gauge fault",
there's even a video of the repair.
It's that common!
