Steering wheel - Excessive play and steering wheel off centre

1998 Mitsubishi L200 2.5D LWB single cab
Car: Mitsubishi L200
Year: 1998
Variant: 2.5D LWB single cab
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
I recently bought this pickup for a trip out to Spain in a few weeks.
Stupidly I didn't check it out properly and after committing myself I noticed considerable play in the steering and when driving the wheel has to be held off-centre when driving straight.
It has power steering and due to other pressures I haven't yet checked out linkages etc. My gut feel is that it is at the steering box and not the linkages.
I am a little surprised I didn't notice the amount of play when I did a short test drive round the village.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Should you find that the play is in the steering box there is an adjusting nut for play on top of the box ,just be sure to leave some free play when adjusting it ,or if not sure get a tech.to do it.
