2003 Mini One engine vibration

ON STARTING THE ENGINE (EITHER FROM COLD OR AFTER A SHORT JOURNEY) HAS A SEVERE VIBRATION AS IF IT IS HUNTING FOR FUEL I HAVE TO SWITCH OFF ON THE SECOND TRY IT STARTS OK NO VIBRATION?
