2002 MG ZR engine struggling in low revs

Car: MG ZR
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.4 petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Basically my car has been off the road and not been used for the past 6 months, ive recently tried getting it going again and there is a delay when first starting the car before it actually turns over. Once running it revs ok but when under load and driving in low rpm it feels like the car is struggling and there is an occasional clunking noise coming from the under the bonnet and also the engine management light is coming too. Once it is up to around 4000 rpm it seems to sort its self out and drives ok. I have cleaned the air filter, checked the spark plugs gaps, checked the fuel pump is supplying enough fuel to the fuel injector.

Not sure what else to try, I tend do most work on my car myself so any further ideas which i could probably manage myself would be appreciated before i take it to a garage and to get robbed!

Thanks

Could check leads / coil pack .

Is that the ignition coils/leads?

Yes , could be tracking / shorting / breaking down .

While trying to sort it out today i did notice a clicking noise coming from the left side coil, so i swapped the spark plug over and it still happened. So i swapped the coil over with the other one and the noise has moved to but its not as often. Would all this trouble with acceleration/juddering/lack of power and clunking noise really be down to just the ignition coil? What do u think?

Thanks by the way

You seemed to have found the answer if it changes when you swapped them over . Dont know about clunking noise apart from possibly engine mountings .

Yeh it turnt out to be a split rubber protector on the spark plug cover which was misfiring. Fixed that and everything seems to be fine now. The clunking i reckon is down to the radiator being loose. Just got to pass the MOT now. Thanks for your help mate
