2004 MG ZR compression low

my car wont start so i have had it checked its a MG ZR 2004, 1.4. The compressions are very low the highest is 100 the lowest is only 35!! I have been told the belt has slipped its going round but told I need a new 1 at around £650.00 does this sem right please?

I presume you meen the price is for the head to come off which by the sound of it it will, low compression on one cylinder is a clear indication the piston has touched the valves, price quoted seems fair to me but be preparred for the worst, you cannot fully quote for this type of job with out the head being removed first its not uncommon to find a hole in a piston after cambelt failure, how ever its a simple engine to work on
