How common is a cracked sump on the 2143 engine of my c220 d of 2010?

Oil leak was first the sump gasket and intercooler pipe, now a cracked sump!

Would have thought the cracked sump would have been noticed when gasket replaced .

Yes you would have thought so. As the sump is plastic I wondered if this is common.

It is quite common and can crack while loosening or tightening the sump drain bolt , especially if previously over tightened .That is why a lot suck the oil out rather than use the plug .
