Fluctuations in revs while stopped

2005 Mercedes Benz C Class 1.8 SE Elegance Auto
Car: Mercedes Benz C Class
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.8 SE Elegance Auto
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when stopping( ie. at traffic lights) the engine revs up and down slightly so I have to disengage gear. It usually stops after ten seconds or so
Problem added: Mar 13, 2015 (9 years ago)
I really have no idea if this is correct but I had a Merc in last week with the same symptoms.
Turned out to be VERY low on transmission fluid.
It took over a liter and a half and is booked in for next week to find the loss point.
Anyway onece topped up it idled as normal.
Bad news is I don't think yours has a transmission dipstick like this one has so it will need Merc star to diagnose a gear box level/fault.
If it is indeed a box fault.
