Just found out that the number 3 fuel injector has a faulty sealing washer and is blowing past the injector.
Is this a common problem as my local MB dealer has stated they had never heard of it before,the car has done 42K miles.

Have had that problem with many diesels,you need to clean the seat in the head and fit a new washer.

Very common on other cars also but usually at a higher mileage .
