Water getting into battery/fuse compartment

2006 Mercedes Benz A Class Auto Avantgarde
Car: Mercedes Benz A Class
Year: 2006
Variant: Auto Avantgarde
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The engine light came up on the dash so took to mechanic. Before I got there I made a stop when started engine again the light did not come on. He did the diagnostic test all the same nothing but agreed to take car in and check over. When checking opened the battery compartment under drivers seat and found the fuse circuit under water. Told it is badly corroded but cannot see how or where water coming in. Also opened the boot and found water in the spare tyre well. Don't know how to drain without drilling hole in floor. Help required as he has no idea where it is coming from. Am I g going to have to buy a new fuse box. He tells me the car could have gone up in flames.

I would start with checking the door seals. As for the water in the fuse circuit you could try drying it out and use some electrical spray.

Water leaking into the battery / fuse box is a common problem with the W169 A class's. I would check the dust filter housing under the bonnet on the scuttle pannel, the drain plug inside the filter housing gets clogged up with dirt and grit, blocking the drain poitn, so therefor all the water drains into the inside of the car and footwell.
