2000 Mazda 323 screeching now battery won't charge

Hi, my car was making a screeching sound for a while and then it would not start. I managed to get the breakdown gentleman to tighten the belt which stopped the screech (not sure this is a permanent fix as he only did the top one and said I may need to get the bottom one done? I re-charged the battery with an 'electric' charger and it started, now I have to do this every night and there is a clunking sound when she starts. do I need to simply change the battery or is the problem with the alternator?

It sounds like an alternator issue ,best to get the charging rate checked ,you could check your connection,s to the unit,but advise any further checks by mechanic.

Get your battery and alternator load tested. Most fast fit centres will do it while you wait , normally FOC if not too busy .

it defo sounds like your alternater which charges your batt while engine is on and to keep charge when engine has stopped just tightin it could cause it to snap this is only a short term fix if it does snap then this will cause big probs

sounds like your altenator is goosed ,the clunking sound could be your solanoid on your starter ,,get it checked out definetly an alternator issue by the sounds of it regarding the having to charge the battery every night,do a load test start the car turn everything electrical on possible including th lights if they dont brighten up when you rev the car then its more likley an alternator issue
