1998 Jaguar XJ auto gearbox slipping in 2nd / 3rd gear + display shows "faulty gearbox"

Car: Jaguar XJ
Year: 1998
Variant: XJ8 4.0 L Sovereign LWB
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When starting to move from a stationary position, my cars transmission slips in 2nd /3rd gear. If I accelerate slowly and wait for it to move into 4th & 5th gear, everything is OK.
If I get a "FAULTY GEARBOX" on the dash display, it goes off after I turn the motor off. I think the Computer resets and eliminates the problem.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
