Turns over but will not start RAC

2003 Jaguar X-Type Auto Petrol 2.1
Car: Jaguar X-Type
Year: 2003
Variant: Auto Petrol 2.1
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
RAC suggested was probably fuel pump issue but yesterday tried to start it and it started first time drove all day with no problems or stuttering or any loss of power. Today won't start again - can fuel pumps be that erratic ? Could it be plugs and points or dirt/condensation in fuel?

Unless I'm wrong , I dont think you have points on your car . Usually ignition coil packs system ( wish they all still had points / distributor ) .Would be good idea to check / replace plugs and also the fuel filter before getting too involved and see if that helps

Correct , may be just the fuel filter partially choked , restricting the flow .On a lot of cars you can hear the fuel pump buzz for a second or two when operating correctly . Another old trick that often works if fuel pump sticking is to cycle the ignition key on / off a few times prior to starting
