2003 Jaguar X-Type random power loss

Car: Jaguar X-Type
Year: 2003
Variant: 2.0 V6 SE
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I am experiencing a random problem, sometimes on a long drive the car looses power down to around 50mph the display says cruise not available, the temp guage climbs then message changes to engine over heat. After pulling over and turning off the ignition the fault resets and vehicle drives again without a problem until it randomly happens again. Also cruise control will not set, it activates with the steering wheel switch but will not set. Any ideas?

You would be best to get it scanned and see what shows .There was a recall for later models to do with cruise control involving cruise control software .When was fuel filter last changed ? Overheating could possibly be partially choked rad . but many possible causes .

Another possible cause could be the head temperature sensor which could explain the tie in with temp gauge increase but that should normally show as a code when scanned .

It has just been serviced, so would they have changed fuel filter? Also there was an error code and a temp sensor was changed. Is there more than one?

Any faulT code logged in your e.c.m shut,s off cruise control function.Does sound like a temperature issue with a sensor or fan module or wiring.

Car was sounding as though it was choking when first start then when it warms up there is slight air gasping noise and when I put my foot down the rev counter races ahead then the speed kicks in
I have had 2 lumba changed abd the gaspin noise gone butstill lacks power when I put my foot down
same thing the rev counter races ahead then the power kicks in to catch up with revs any solutions
