Significant exhaust noise increase once or twice a month

2010 Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCI
Car: Ford S-Max
Year: 2010
Variant: 2.0 TDCI
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
On rare/random occasions the exhaust noise increases significantly. It sounds like there is a hole in the exhaust. Usually only returns to normal after switching off the engine. When standing outside during or just after an event, there is a burning smell. No loss of performance, just noise/burning smell. Any idea what the intermittent problem maybe? Rog

Probably the perfectly normal symptoms of Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration. Nothing to worry about .
