Summary

Should a customer express concern about accessory drive belt noise, the probable cause is misalignment of the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt. To rectify this concern a new air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt should be installed.

This bulletin contains additional information for installation of the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt on vehicles equipped with the 2.5L Duratec-ST (VI5) engine. This additional information will be included in the relevant sections of the affected models Workshop Manual Sections.

Service Instruction
See Summary.

1. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt. For additional information, refer to Focus 2004.75; Kuga 2008.5; Mondeo 2007.5; S-MAX/Galaxy 2006.5 Workshop Manual Section 303-05A.

1. Release the accessory drive belt tensioner.

2. Remove and discard the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt.

2. Install a new air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt (see Parts Required).

1. Place the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt.

2. Release the accessory drive belt tensioner to complete the air conditioning (A/C) compressor belt fitting on all pulley's.

Complete inspection of all pulley's paying attention to belt wrap between the AC compressor and the tensioner for any misalignment or mis-fitting to avoid failure. This area of the belt routing is very critical as any misalignment of the belt on the A/C pulley is NOT permissible.
